Spades game rules for four players

How to play the classic card game Spades online

Spades Online With Friends - Basic Game Rules

Spades is played with a standard 52-card French-suited deck of cards. The cards are ordered as follows, from highest to lowest: K - Q - J - 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - A

The trump card is always in the suit of spades. This is in contrast to the majority of other trick-taking games, in which the trump suit is selected either during the bidding phase or by random selection.

Deal

Each player is dealt a hand of thirteen cards. The dealing direction is in the clockwise direction.

Bidding

All players place bets on the amount of tricks they want to take in the game. Because all participants participate in a partnership, the sum of the bids placed by each member of the partnership is calculated.

If you believe that you will not earn any tricks, you can bid Nil. As a result, your bid will be judged independently of your partner in this situation. You can also make a Blind Nil (Double Nil) bid even before you see the cards in your hand.

Gameplay

The goal of the game is to win as many tricks as was bid on the table before the game begins.

The game is played in a clockwise pattern. If at all possible, you must stick to the suit; otherwise, any card can be played. A player may not lead with a spade until all of the spades have been discarded from the game (a spade card has been played to trump another trick).

A trick is won by the player who used the highest-valued card in his or her hand. It is the top card of the suit that was led if one or more trumps are played; otherwise, it is the highest card of the suit that was lead.

Scoring

When a team wins the number of tricks they bid on, they receive 10 points for each trick in the bid, plus one additional point for each additional trick won over the limit.

If a Nil bid is successful, it is worth 100 points, and if it is unsuccessful, it is worth -100 points. Blind Nil is worth 100 points in this game.

Every trick that is higher than your bid will be counted as a bag. Every ten bags you collect will result in a deduction of 100 points from your final score.

The winner is the first team to reach 500 points.
