Give more character to your island

When you launch your new life in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you start with just two villagers joining you on your not-so-deserted island. However, to make progress and transform your paradise into a busy activity center, you need to draw new villagers to your Animal Crossing Island. In reality, expanding your island is a crucial component - new tenants are a necessity to reach the ladder and the entire elevated back half of your island, so it's best to follow K.K. Slider's advice and make new friends.

In this guide, we will cover the best ways to draw characters to your island, including visiting random islands, building a campsite, and using amiibo cards.

How to have more people on your island
At the start of the game, you'll need to invite 3 new villagers to kickstart your island creation and access each part. Currently, the precise criterion for recruiting these new characters is quite hazy.
For eg, while on expedition we only met one new character (and we didn't even invite her to live on our island), but on Day 3 Tom Nook announced that three parties were interested in coming to live on our island. We were busy constructing the museum, converting our tent to a house (and thus our residents' homes were similarly upgraded), and generally making our island attractive.
We still want more characters! Let's look at ways to draw new villagers.

Use Nook Miles to explore deserted islands
Available to buy from Resident Services' Nook Stop Terminal, once you have Nook Miles Tickets in your hands, head to the airport and talk to Orville the dodo. Note. Note. You already need Resident Services' Nook Miles Ticket or the choice won't be open. Get the raccoon Nook Miles ticket first.
Orville will set you on a flight to a mysterious island that you can loot for fruit, trees, and resources without feeling guilty. A random character even visits this island. Chat with them, and invite them back to life on your island. The mtmmo.com also can get the Nook Miles Ticket.

Sell land to unknown characters
Once you've progressed from a tent to a proper building for about a week and upgraded Resident Services, Tom Nook will offer you the option to sell land to unseen prospective buyers. These plots cost 10,000 Bells each and you must select a place for them like any other house or development, but a new character can move in after a while.

Create and use amiibo cards to invite characters
Another alternative available once the brick-and-mortar Resident Services building is to create a campsite. Once you have the campsite, characters visit randomly, and you should be able to get them to stay more permanently by talking to them. Alternatively, you should leave them behind, waiting for a better candidate.

Use amiibo cards to invite characters to your campsite once you have the campsite. Visit Resident Services and use Nook Stop Terminal to invite characters to your campsite. When told, tap your amiibo card to your right Joy-Con (or Pro Controller), and—just like magic—your chosen character will appear immediately on the campsite.

This, however, has restrictions:

First, after 3 days of inviting villagers to your campsite and crafting their requested things, you may invite them to live on your island.
Second, big-name characters with amiibo characters like K.K. Slider, Isabelle, and others won't come to your campsite, and as you'd expect, non-Animal Crossing amiibo characters won't work.
Still, if you have a favorite villager you want to see on your island, it's time to use those amiibo cards. Know, if you want them to live with you, patience is important.
