The Steam launch arrives the same day PSO 2's Episode 4 expansion, which will also drop on PSO2 Meseta the Xbox One and Windows Store. I have not followed the game too tightly, but judging from this trailer you will get to use your giant mechs from World War II battleships -- since you do. It's heartening to watch Sega pushing PSO two in the US nowadays, though it all seems to be leading to the launching of the newly announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, a modern title heading to the Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC. Sega says that title won't replace the original PSO 2, instead it'll be more complimentary because you'll be able to use your existing personality in both matches.
Microsoft was very cooperative in releasing PSO two, and to enlarge on this, they were interested in PSO 2 and in providing us with Agile, their programming program. It is not really a technical reason -- because in terms of transferring the game over to Xbox, it was not any simpler -- but they really supported placing the game on Xbox. It's not the Xbox is specifically hard, but there were several features that had to be corrected specifically for Xbox. It was originally developed on PC, so it's relatively simple to deliver over to some other system.
We have been waiting so long for PSO two to come out at the West -- eight years now -- that it is interesting that you chose to release it here first on Xbox One. It is interesting, since the Xbox One is basically in the last year of its lifetime as Microsoft transitions to the Xbox Series X. Did you launch on Xbox One because you knew that the Xbox collection X will be backward-compatible, and that people would be able to carry their progress over to the next console? Or did Microsoft strategy you because they're hungrier for content compared to Sony is for the PlayStation 4?
Now, to finish off our show, we turn our attention to Phantasy Star Online 2, that came in the West two decades following the release of the Dreamcast original -- and eight long years after PSO 2's launch in Japan. This update is being released instead of a brand new episode to deliver the 8-year-old movie engine up to date, worldwide.
