The problem with these sites was that they weren't hosted by the people who created the shows themselves (which is how you would get an episode of something like Naruto on YouTube), but by random users instead. These days, thanks to new technologies like torrents and bittorrent trackers that allow streaming content directly from producers' websites, you no longer need these fan-made sites. You can watch what you want on your computer without searching through dozens of websites just to see if it's available. You can be assured that you're getting the latest, uncensored version of whatever anime you're interested in.
As more and more anime has become available on these new distribute sites, it's also become very easy to find where all the torrent files are. For example, right now, there's only three different types of trackers on the whole internet: Freetracker.io (the one used by baka-updates), CR-TPC (where CR is "Compressed Resource Tracker" on Wikipedia) and RGTracker.io (which is the one used by RG on Wikipedia). The process for finding new episodes of anime begins with the announcement pages on the respective websites, sometimes even before it's even been announced to other places like Anime News Network or MyAnimeList. The next step is to find the episode list pages, which are available for download on Freetracker.io or CR-TPC (I will explain to you why you should use Freetracker.io over CR-TPC below). Next, you browse the CR-TPC or Freetracker website until you find the download link for the episode. You go back to your favorite torrent downloader (I use qBittorrent) and you enter the link in the box where it says "Enter The Link Here" and click search. A list of all of the available torrents for that specific episode will load. You then right-click on the torrent that has over 5000 seeds (numbers of people who have downloaded it) and click "copy this magnet link".
